There are places to eat on the outskirts of Southerndown, near the beach. We stayed in Southerndown recently and this was right on our doorstep. Southerndown is a village in southern Wales to the southwest of Bridgend, in St Brides Major community, close to Llantwit Major and Ogmore-by-Sea.It is mostly known for its beach which backs Dunraven Bay (Welsh: Bae Dwnrhefn), which is a popular tourist destination during the summer months and since 1972 has been part of a Heritage Coast and is part of the Southerndown Coast SSSI.

I hiked the coastal path from Southerndown past Dunraven's Castle and along the cliffs until Monknash. A circular walk from Southerndown in Glamorgan.
The beach is used for bathing, surfing, canoeing and there are some good rockpools to explore and possibly some fossils in the pebbles. The walk goes up from the car park, through the abandoned gardens of the long demolished Dunraven Castle and on for magnificent views of the Glamorgan costal cliffs and glorious beaches.
Bonus we found a few fossils to boot.

Additional Information 1 review of Southerndown Beach "A spectacular view as you wend your way down Beach Road in Southerndown, down from the Three Golden Cups pub, it opens right out across the Bristol Channel and then down the sheer cliff top to the beach below. I takes about an hour to an hour and a half to walk back from Monknash to Southerndown via beach.

At the 3 Golden Cups Pub in Southerndown, turn down Beach Road go past a small car park on your right then through 2 stone pillars - our campsite is the fields on the left - through a farm gate. Kids enjoyed the fossil hunting aswelll as playing in the water as the tide came in.
Beach is rocky at high tide. Our postcode is CF32 0RP - however this will take you to Southerndown Village. I like coming here to walk the dogs.
