I have the same issue, writing in ALL CAPS did not help. I can't loggin into the client. This problaby wont work for everyone but it turns out that my username was supposed to be spelled in all uppercase letters.The steam client boostrap automatically spelled them lowercase for some reason. #10. Close. They are not incorrect, they are exactly as they should be. I have 200+ games on steam that will never be played again and I will never be able to purchase another product from steam. If you are sure your password is correct, try putting your cursor right at the end of your username and hold down the DEL key (not backspace) to delete any extra "spaces" that might have accidentally been entered after your user name.
