There are some very interesting art, particularly sculpture, not seen inStopped by and they had the exhibit: The birth, death and resurrection of Christ. The museum is an excellent way to appreciate the region.

They did had a wonderful courtyard area that had lots of what I would call more classic Western Art ...murals just wonderful panels made by well-known New Mexican artists.Although this is not my favorite museum in Santa Fe (partial to Georgia O'Keeffe and Folk Art), it's still a lovely way to spend an hour or so. The current, longterm exhibition "It's About Time: 14,000 Years of Art in New Mexico" proves in one long chronology that New Mexicans have always made art and apparently will never stop. In New Mexico with the colors(more on the museum walls later), the heat, the wide open spaces, the blue skies, the brown tint to everything, the red and green chile, and everything else in between... it's a type of psychology that I wish could be measured.Being right off the plaza, makes this "must see" museum an easy to get to museum!

But after thinking about it, and finding out NMMoA was already open, instead of having to walk further AND wait another hour to do something, AND it cost less (by $1 but still....), we decided to spend our morning at the New Mexico Museum of Art (also...we assumed there would also be more variety at than at the O'Keefe Museum).Only visited once, but I remember the sculptor garden fondly, especially on a clear day. The display here on our visit certainly was that.

We visited late afternoon on a Saturday and it was very quiet.

We spent about 2-1/2 hours here. If you book with Tripadvisor, you can cancel up to 24 hours before your tour starts for a full refund. I haven't visited the museum but the St. Francis Auditorium is gorgeous and great accoustics. They have a beautiful auditorium for local talks, concerts and more.
