There’s an abandoned post office, old mine-carts, and of course tons of buildings used for transporting mine-materials. In 2001, Nordegg was designated as a national historic site. The mine is safely blocked off, but very interesting to look at. Such an interesting place.Press J to jump to the feed.

Discover the spooky side of Jerome, AZ, with a ghost tour! Further up the road into the town, there are a few boarded-up houses. Strong and stable for over 95 years, The Western Producer has earned the trust of farmers and advertisers alike.

Lots of the doors into it are welded shut, but there are a few open ones and lots of windows. When exploring, is important to preserve history and leave everything in its rightful place; especially old Nordegg, as it’s possibly still in use for tourism. I wouldn’t be surprised if the commercial tour operators put No Trespassing signs up around crown land to protect their business.Pretty sure the ghost town is a National Heritage Site.

Every once in a while, long stretches of silence at Nordegg's Brazeau Collieries is broken by a steady hum - a rising eerie drone causing onlookers to pause pensively before it escalates into loud, uneven and tinny banging. To get to it, my boyfriend and I went West past the turn-off into Nordegg and turned onto the next road. We also walked through a tunnel and found an old well.I once lived in Nordegg for three months.

It may be my favourite place to visit.Better explore it now before the crowds show up and ruin it.My apologies, Bramit. Nordegg: An Alberta ghost town - Calgary Journal Online It snows every month of the year. The main streets were laid out in a circle with side streets running to the town’s centre similar to spokes on a wagon wheel.

We got out of the car and walked about 2km down a pathway and arrived directly at the ghost town. It’s cold. I’ve seen a lot of posts on people looking into the Nordegg ghost town for places to explore, so I just wanted to share directions and information. If it’s the latter, you aren’t actually trespassing, it’s public property.
The idea for the town’s layout came from the garden city design of the English town planner Ebenezer Howard and also from neighbourhoods in Montreal around Mount Royal. The Nordegg town site provided homes for 250 miners, plus hotels, churches, club rooms and a large Big Horn Trading Company store. Ghost towns are towns that once had a considerable population, that have since dwindled in numbers causing some or all its business to close, either due to the rerouting of a highway, train tracks being pulled, or exhaustion of some natural resource . Most of the homes are gone but today tourists can tour the remains of the coal processing plant and loading facilities, as well as some historical buildings in the town site. The high transportation cost of moving coal and the increasing availability of fuel oil made coal uncompetitive. These transport buildings were incredible, with large gears, leavers, and tons of other rusted machinery inside. Is the ghost town on private land or crown land?

Abandoned buildings are scattered around the property, one containing over a hundred old lockers for workers, and others holding pieces of large machinery. It’s such a beautiful site and a truly amazing visit. It was an old mining site. By 1923 it was the most productive mine in Alberta with the railway being its biggest customer. However, as the railway went, so did the mine.

It was... Different. My family and I went and explored this place yesterday and we loved it.

Week after week, it delivers the information farmers have come to rely on. To begin, Nordegg is split into two different sections: Nordegg itself is currently a small hamlet, whereas old Nordegg is now a historical site where tours … The Bellevue Underground Mine tour is family-friendly, and stroller and wheelchair accessible. The Bellevue Underground Mine tour will take you 1,000 feet into the mine, where you will be 150 feet below the surface.
