Thank God the girls in this version are actually the right age for the parts they are playing. The casting and acting are very good, and the plot of the original story is followed more faithfully than the 1995 film.

I do love the Emma Thompson adaptation but this was a toned down, which is rare for TV and made it more grounded, if that makes sense.
Having long regarded the 1995 Emma Thompson/ Hugh Grant / Kate Winslett version as the definitive dramatisation of "Sense and Sensibility" - I was curious to see the more recent BBC production. Sense and Sensibility was co-produced by the BBC and American studio WGBH Boston. Worth watching more than once.

The daughter of a country doctor copes with an unwanted stepmother, an impetuous stepsister, burdensome secrets, the town gossips, and the tug on her own heartstrings for a man who thinks of her only as a friend. We deserved that.
A very good purchase at a very affordable price! I don't want to write a proper review because it's all so subjective, but I prefer this 3 part adaptation to the most recent film (which I also like), because at 3 hours long you can "sink into it" a little more. This has to be my favourite version of sense and sensibility.
