Took me a while to get into this novel but once I did it was hard to put down. Dorn was fourteen, and we wouldn’t exactly call it happier times because civilization was already going off the rails.

Sounds like my Brother-in-law. Worst damn book I have ever read. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. It’s one possible result of the deepening gulf between rich and poor, when those forced into bleak existences finally say enough is enough. Took me a while to get into this novel but once I did it was hard to put down.
The prose is both of the dirt and squalor as well as the grace of heaven. Splash of water from limbs. Savage. Those fell just as quick at the kneelers. Bites.

His sentences remain clean and boiled down, but the language is more inventive. He asks, “Tell me this, how else we supposed to earn our keep?” Horace viewed them as living “lives of salvage,” while Dorn considered them a little better than “human crustaceans” in a post-historical age. I bought this on the strength of "Crimes in Southern Indiana" and 'The Donnybrook" only to discover that Frank Bill appears to have been replaced by a middling-ability Post 16 student who frequently resorts to a thesaurus with results that run from the laughable to the nearly incomprehensible. Nobody writes about the dirty dance of violence like Frank Bill Click on any of the links above to see more books like this one. If The Savage is the answer then we’re in deep trouble. Great book by a cutting edge writer and incredibly pertinent during our times. Nobody writes about the dirty dance of violence like Frank Bill. ShouWhat happens to people living in rural Southern Indiana, already desperate because of globalization, automation, opioids and meth when the dollar becomes worthless and government disappears? That sort of thing might work with more engaging characters (see George RR Martin), but the writing style actually puts a wall between the reader and the characters, so when we veer off course, it all starts to feel a bit pointless. Frank inherits the mantle left behind from previous masters such as Harry Crews but not as sensitive or prone to nostalgia.. Read this if you dare! Glow of a halfmoon cast down upon the calm of water. Even then, it was obvious he had the potential to scale some incredible literary heights, but I wondered how his lean style in abrupt, choppy lines that worked so well in short stories would transfer to long form. I’m a huge fan of Frank Bill, but this novel didn’t hold up to Crimes of Southern Indiana or Donnybrook. The story itself was engaging and I liked the connection to Donnybrook, but the writing style was erratic and the dialogue irritating. One human being should not be able to so vividly describe the spray of human beings insides exiting their body. If The Savage is the answer then we’re in deep trouble. I had to re-read many sentences to try to grasp what it meant. Laughter reddened her face in the moonlight.

Take some time and read this book. After an argument one weekend, Mina retreats to her writing cottage in Provincetown, Massachusetts, several hours away from where they live in Boston. At the end of all this I just want to make hot, dirty love to Chainsaw Angus I mean he keeps saying he has "little use for females as they've no loyalty" which only makes him more desirable to me. I’m a fan of Frank Bill’s writing and I preordered this book because I was so eager to read it. I was not engaged or invested in what was happening at all. It’s one possible result of the deepening gulf between rich and poor, when those forced into bleak existences finally say enough is enough. And one of the central conceits — that there’s a mystical working class/blue collar culture made up of Survivalists that hold to the Old Ways and Live Off The Land — was ham-fisted at best.
Trigger pulled. Its currency has crashed which has in turn meant the power is out, and the country is stark and violent, morality and society have all but collapsed. I definitely would give the author a commendation for his imagination but this book is very difficult to read and comprehend. At first I would have rated it four stars. “Stand up.” And when she wouldn’t he grabbed her hips, pulled her upright. Bites.
