The beach itself is not wheelchair-accessible.Year-round: Brown Pelican, Heermann’s, Western, and other gulls, as many as eight tern species, shorebirds, Anna’s and Allen’s Hummingbirds, and California Towhee (uncommon). Some days, the lagoon is brimming with water and filled with scores of ducks. If you're on the exterior self-guided walking tour, there is still plenty to see - the exterior foyer showcases a beautiful tile design around the house's doorbell.On the back porch, the Neptune Fountain is one of the Adamson House's most photographed features.
When you're done exploring the grounds, exit the Adamson House the way you came in and take a left on the sidewalk at the Pacific Coast Highway.Cross the Malibu Creek Bridge on the Pacific Coast Highway on your way back to the parking area. It is a flat and easy to walk, but bring sandals if you want to walk the half mile walk on the sandy beach to the Malibu Pier. Nearby, a tiled outdoor bathtub was built so the Adamsons could wash their dogs.This small beach house now serves as the Malibu Lagoon Museum and gift shop, open from 11am to 3pm on Wednesday through Saturday. There are currently plans to construct a surfing museum on or nearby the Pier.The end of Malibu Pier is the site of a former WWII Coast Guard lookout, currently home to a seasonally operated Ruby's Diner and year-round gift shop and information station. Pay parking available on south side of the Pacific Coast Hwy., east and west of Malibu Creek. The Adamson House was part of the original Malibu Rancho, granted in 1802. All restrooms are closed, and there are no parking facilities open for visitors, recreational boats or off-highway vehicles. After walking the Pier will next take you down the steps to Malibu Beach.
